The St. Vincent girls basketball team fell in overtime to host New Haven 56-50 in the championship game of the Class 2 District 5 tournament Friday night.

St. Vincent, the No. 2 seed, led by as many as nine points in the second half after entering halftime tied at 15-15.

"We tried to continue to make things happen," St. Vincent coach Terry Wengert said, lamenting the loss of a comfortable cushion. "We finally got a lead and we tried to keep making things happen instead of slowing it down."

The fifth-seeded Shamrocks rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime, where they outscored the Indians 11-5.

"They hit a couple 3s to get back in it and managed to hit their free throws down the stretch," Wengert said.

New Haven made 13 of its 23 free throw attempts, while St. Vincent made just seven of its 16 chances.

"We couldn't hit the broad side of a barn free-throw-wise," Wengert said.
