Norman W. Wood, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at his home.

He was born April 13, 1922, in Cape Girardeau to William and Josephine Schaaf Wood. He and Betty Jean Bock were married Sept. 7, 1946, in Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death Oct. 7, 2009.

Wood was the owner and president of Campbell Mattress Co. in Cape Girardeau. He graduated from St. Louis University and was a board member of the Saint Francis Foundation.

He was a member of Old St. Vincent Catholic Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Ahmed of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Mark Wood of Thomasville, Ga., and Matt Wood of Asheville, N.C.; and five grandchildren, Deborah Cathcart, Christine Boesch, Jonathon Wood, Kate Wood and Crystal Ball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a daughter, Patty Ball, who died in 2005.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Old St. Vincent Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Nwokoye officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Thomas Aquinas or St. Louis University.
