Cape Girardeau police officers are still looking for a suspect who broke into the Sonic fast-food restaurant at 1764 N. Kingshighway on Monday and stole several hundred dollars in cash.

An employee arrived at work to find a window on the south side of the establishment broken and cash missing, said Cape Girardeau Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jason Selzer.

"There was a safe that was open, and the money was missing from inside the safe, and the safe did not appear to be damaged," he said.

The employee who found the safe broken into said staff members who closed the restaurant Sunday night should have locked it up.

Whoever is responsible for stealing the money, Selzer said, is expected to have known the combination to the safe.
