25 years ago: March 19, 1985

Cape Girardeau City Council members are considering sending voters back to the polls in a June special election to once again decide the fate of a city sewer bond issue proposal; a similar bond issue was rejected by voters last month.

Ground-breaking for the new $13.2 million multipurpose building on the Southeast Missouri State University campus is set for Thursday morning.

50 years ago: March 19, 1960

The Catholic High Bulldogs completed one of their most successful basketball seasons in the school's history, adding four new trophies and a third-place finish in the Missouri Class M state tournament; the Bulldogs racked up 21 wins and eight losses for the fourth best record under the coaching of Tony Rubich.

Winter bows out in appropriate style -- snow flurries and near-freezing temperatures coming in advance of the arrival of spring tomorrow morning; as winter goes down in the record books, it should be noted that Cape Girardeau had 27 1/4 inches of snow, coming in a 16-day period in late February and March.

75 years ago: March 19, 1935

After being called to an address on Independence Street yesterday evening, J.A. Barks, co-owner of the White Stripe Taxicab Line, was kidnapped, robbed of $140, beaten, bound with a cloth and thrown out beside a Scott County road and his automobile stolen by two hoodlums.

Following the remodeling of the Hecht Building, 39-41 N. Main St., the Dolly Hat Shop will occupy the south side of the building, while Irvin's store will be on the north side.

100 years ago: March 19, 1910

It is reported that a man representing New York capitalists has asked for a meeting with the Jackson city council in order to submit a proposal looking toward the building of an electric rail system from that town to Poplar Bluff, Mo., via Cape Girardeau.

Martin Oberheid plans to begin the reorganization of the Capahas baseball team Monday; he says he has the assurance of enough good players to put together a competitive team this summer.
