Inell Vogel

Inell Mason Vogel, 89, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Jayton, Texas, daughter of William R. and Ellesa L. Tankersley Mason.

In 1927 her family moved to Rule, Texas. She graduated from Rule High School in 1938 and attended McMurry College In Abilene, Texas, in 1938-1939. She took a Civil Service exam offered by the government for the Farm Security Administration in Ballinger, Texas. She was later promoted to administrative supervisor over office personnel in the area from San Angelo to Amarillo, Texas.

In August 1944 she met Leonard H. Vogel, who was a pilot in the Army Air Corps, stationed at Concho Field in San Angelo. They were married May 24, 1946, at First Methodist Church in Rule.

They moved to Cape Girardeau May 26, 1946. Inell worked in the shipping department at Marquette Cement 14 years. She then attended and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in May 1964 with a bachelor of science degree in education. She then worked at Kent Library two years.

They attended Trinity Lutheran Church and later moved their membership to St. Andrew Lutheran Church. In September 1996 they moved to a duplex at Saxony Village.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years; cousins including Margaret Davis Glover of Florida; a special playmate from childhood; and three sisters-in-law, Norma Sander, Jo Ann Vogel and Verna Vogel.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew Church, with the Rev. Paul Short officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be given to Saxony Lutheran High School or United Way.
