Mount Auburn church plans '40 Days' projects

Mount Auburn Christian Church members are planning three service projects in conjunction with a "40 Days of Community" Bible study. The study is affiliated with Saddleback Christian Church in California and ties into the "40 Days of Purpose" campaign written by Rick Warren, pastor at Saddleback. Local church members will be helping the Clippard Elementary School PTA in cleaning up the grounds, painting and building shelves. A second project involves a special offering and canned food drive to benefit Vision House, a not-for-profit shelter for women recovering from addictions. The group's final project is to help at the Revival Center in Jackson, a Christian organization that provides food and shelter for the homeless. Volunteers will be painting, building bunk beds and cleaning up the grounds. For information, contact the church office at macchurch@sbcglobal.net or "40 Days of Community" chairman John Hansen at John_K_ Hansen@hotmail.com.

Jackson FISH club planning park party

A Jackson High School Christian club, known as FISH, is planning a communitywide teen party May 21 at the city park's band shell. The event is being dubbed "Rock-n-Roles in the Park" and will include rock, pop and rap bands along with games and skits. The activities begin at noon and continue until 10 p.m. Churches are donating food, and pizza will be served at 7 p.m. To help fund the project, the FISH group sold T-shirts. "At first we weren't sure we were even going to reach our goal of 200 T-shirts," said Tyler Tankersley, a club member. "But the orders just kept coming, and now we've nearly doubled that." The group hopes to see 500 or more at the event.
