Scott City and Kelly both emerged with state qualifiers during Saturday's Class 2 District 1 track and field meet in Festus.

The top two finishers in each event qualified for the state meet, set for Friday and Saturday in Jefferson City.

Scott City qualified athletes in five events on the girls side, while Kelly had one girl and one boy qualify.

Scott City finished third in the girls team standings with 73 points. The Rams trailed Principia (103) and Crystal City (86) in the 15-team event. Kelly was 10th with 21 points.

On the boys side, Kelly was eighth with 34 points and Scott City placed ninth with 24 points. Crystal City (123.5) and Malden (120.5) grabbed the top two spots.

Scott City's girls claimed a pair of victories, by the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter relay teams.

The Rams' 1,600 group of Kacie Cartwright, Angie Laxton, Christy Laxton and Jackie Kittleson prevailed with a time of 4:21.44, while the 3,200 squad of the same foursome clocked 10:13.72.

Kittleston will compete at state in four events after she placed second in both the 1,600 (5:45.32) and 3,200 (13:02.06).

Scott City's other state qualifier was Christy Laxton, as she finished second in the 800 and set a school record (2:31).

The Rams narrowly missed on several other state berths, placing third in five events.

Kelly's Rachel Kline was second in the high jump (5-0) to reach the state meet.

On the boys side, Kelly's Michael Glastetter won the 800 in 2:04.47.
