The Saxony Lutheran boys track and field team emerged with state qualifiers in eight events and a second-place finish during Saturday's Class 1 District 1 meet at the Missouri School for the Deaf in Fulton.

Viburnum won the 16-team event with 89 points, followed by Saxony Lutheran with 75. Chaffee (24) was ninth and Oran (11) 12th.

The top two finishers in each event qualified for the state meet Friday and Saturday in Jefferson City.

Saxony Lutheran had two district champs: Trey Maevers in the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches) and the 3,200-meter relay team of Maevers, Grant Lehmann, Max Wieser and Brandon Etzold (8 minutes, 38.2 seconds).

Second-place finishers were: Alex Jauch in the 110 hurdles (18.6) and 300 hurdles (44.2); Etzold in the 1,600 (4:41.2), Lehmann in the 400 (53.1), Tim Lorenz in the shot put (40-8) and the 1,600 relay team of Wieser, Lehmann, Maevers and Etzold (3:39).

For Chaffee, Matt Sanders qualified for state by finishing second in the discus.

In the girls division, Chaffee tied for third with and had three girls qualify in five events. Sara Dooley won the discus and shot put. Whitney Schlosser finished second in the shot put. Christa Beck finished second in the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles.
