Notre Dame held off Perryville for a 3-2 semifinal victory Tuesday in the Class 3 District 1 baseball tournament at Sikeston. Notre Dame held off Perryville for a 3-2 semifinal victory Tuesday in the Class 3 District 1 baseball tournament at Sikeston.

The third-seeded Bulldogs (17-7) took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Perryville, seeded seventh, tied the game with a run in the top half of the fifth, but Notre Dame went ahead for good with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Bulldogs will take on top-seeded Sikeston, a 9-1 winner over fourth-seeded Kennett, in today's championship at 4:30 p.m.

Jeremy Brinkmeyer improved to 9-0 on the mound with a seven-inning, two-hit performance for Notre Dame.

Dane Balsmann led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and a triple. Blake Essner and Jacob Essner each added two hits.

Shaun Roth suffered the loss for the Pirates (6-16).

Class 4 District 1

Jackson pounded out 13 hits and got a complete game from Jason Meystedt for an 8-3 victory over No. 4 Fox to move on to the championship game of the Class 4 District 1 tournament today at Wilson-Rozier Park in Farmington.

The top-seeded Indians (18-3) will face sixth-seeded Poplar Bluff, which defeated Farmington 5-4.

Meystedt allowed seven hits, two earned runs, struck out eight and walked one. Brandon Gendron and Luke Crader had three hits apiece for the Indians, and Zach Brazer had two hits.

Class 2 District 2

St. Vincent upset top-seeded Kelly 5-4 in eight innings on a game-winning, bases-loaded walk to advance to the championship game.

The fifth-seeded Indians (10-12) loaded the bases in top of the extra frame, then Brian Buchheit took a walk to score Kyle Kline, the eventual game-winning run.

Both Buchheit and pitcher Alex Armbruster had two hits.

St. Vincent will take on No. 3 Scott City in the championship game Thursday at 4 p.m. at Scott City.

Scott City (8-10) used a team effort at the plate and a solid outing from hurler Mark Johnston to defeat No. 2 Crystal City 7-2.

Johnston struck out seven batters and gave up only four hits.

Kyle Curry and Andy Stephens had two hits apiece.

Class 1 District 1

Upsets ruled during the semifinals of the tournament at Leopold as fourth-seeded Oak Ridge beat top-seeded Saxony Lutheran 5-3 and sixth-seeded Valley of Caledonia routed second-seeded Leopold 11-3.

Oak Ridge erased a 3-2 deficit by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Austin Morrison had two hits for the Blue Jays (9-10), who finished with seven hits. Austin Hahs pitched 5 1/3 innings for the victory, and Morrison hurled the final 1 1/3 innings for a save.

Kory Mueller and Ben Courtois both had two of the six hits for Saxony (11-5). Courtois suffered the loss.

Valley scored four runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back, leading 9-0 before Leopold (10-9) finally got on the board on of a three-run, sixth-inning homer by Michael Vandeven.

Vandeven went 3-for-3, but the Wildcats had just five hits. Eric Seiler suffered the loss. Kris Kearns and Michael Dodd both had three of Valley's 11 hits, and Kearns recorded the victory.

Oak Ridge and Valley will play at 4 p.m. Thursday for the title.
