Marshall's appointment by President Barack Obama as alternate federal co-chair of the authority was announced Friday. The Delta Caucus, a private group of Delta-region public officials and civic leaders who work with the Delta Authority created by Congress, praised Marshall's appointment.

"Mike Marshall is (a) long-time Delta regional advocate, ... and this is a superb choice that bodes well for the future work of the DRA in promoting economic development in the eight-state region from southern Illinois to New Orleans, La.," said Lee Powell, Delta Caucus director.
