CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Lawrence Burl Hooker, 76, of Chaffee died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born Nov. 1, 1928, at Chaffee, son of Lawrence Vylie and Hattie Viola Thomas Hooker. He and Joy Dobbs were married Jan. 24, 1949.

Hooker was a brakeman and conductor with Frisco Railroad and later Burlington Northern Railway from 1950 until retiring in 1987.

He was a member of First Christian Church, and had been a board member, elder and trustee. He was a member of Chaffee Elks Lodge 1810, Raney Farm Board, United Trainmen Union, was a former Boy Scout leader and received the Order of Arrow and Wood Badge.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Sonny Hooker of Benton, La., David Hooker of Chaffee; two daughters, Susan Nelson of Flemington, Mo., Patty Krieg of Shreveport, La.; a brother, Jimmy Hooker of Crystal River, Fla.; four sisters, Helen Eichhorn, Renda Heady and Camilla Jean Madison, all of Inverness, Fla., Mary Frances Harmon of Tampa, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. today. An Elks service will be held at 7:30.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Vyron Yount officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.
