Craig Thomas draws attention to this weekend's ArtsCape with a chalk rendition of Edward Hopper's "The Lighthouse at Two Lights, 1929" outside the art classrooms at Jackson High School on Monday. Thomas is promoting the Streetpainting Festival, which will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Entry for the all-ages contest is $15, which includes a box of soft pastels and pizza. The Streetpainting Festival will kick off the 10th annual ArtsCape Festival on Saturday in Capaha Park. ArtsCape will have 30 vendors from Southeast Missouri and the Midwest selling blown glass, pottery, jewelry and other crafts. Volunteers have organized a children's activity center in the pavilion. Acoustic musicians will start playing at 11 a.m., and from 4 to 6 p.m., Wes Huber will host a community drum circle for anyone who brings an instrument. (Fred Lynch)
