A grill cooling off from a Memorial Day barbecue was a contributing factor to an early morning house fire in Jackson.

Jackson Fire Department spokesman Steve Baugh said that around 1:55 a.m. Tuesday crews were called to a fire at 404 S. Shawnee Blvd. Within 20 minutes crews contained the fire. Around 4:30 a.m. crews left the scene.

Baugh said the fire started from the grill on a deck and spread to the attic, where most of the damage occurred. No one was injured in the fire at the split-level home.

Crews from the Cape Girardeau Fire Department assisted with extinguishing the blaze. Fruitland fire crews provided mutual aid at Jackson Fire Station.
