Mo. Southern president's contract extended

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) -- Despite a faculty vote of no-confidence, the president of Missouri Southern State University has received a one-year extension of his contract.

The Board of Governors on Wednesday voted to extend President Bruce Speck's contract through 2012.

Board chairman Rod Anderson says the board supports Speck. He says Speck has worked hard to improve relations with the faculty since the no-confidence vote last November.

The Joplin Globe says Speck did not speak to reporters after the board's vote.

The faculty voted no-confidence in Speck after complaints about his leadership, management, judgment and shared governance with faculty.
