The Plaza Tire Capahas opened with three runs in the first inning, but it proved not to be enough against host Fairview Heights.

Fairview Heights hit a homer on the first pitch of the ninth inning to knock off the Capahas 6-5 on Wednesday.

Anthony Maupin, who entered to pitch the ninth, took the loss after delivering one pitch.

Daryl Graham's two-run double in the first inning got the Capahas off on the right foot. Sean Bard slammed a home run in the fifth inning to add some insurance, but Fairview Heights refused to quit.

The Capahas added an insurance run in the seventh after Blake Gaddis doubled. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Bard. But Fairview Heights scored one in the eighth and another in the ninth to push the Capahas to 10-5 this season.

Kirk Boeller started for the Capahas and went 5 1/3 innings. He allowed four runs, two earned, before giving way to Jacob Wente, who went 2 2/3 innings.

Gaddis, Jordan Kimball, Graham and Greg Craft all had two hits for the Capahas, who finished with nine.

Fairview Heights also struck for nine hits. It evened the score in the bottom of the eighth with a run before the ninth-inning home run to win it.

The Capahas return to action today when they play at 7:30 p.m. in Perryville, Mo.
