Cape Senior Legion sweeps pair

The Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons Senior American Legion baseball team won both of its games Thursday at the Paducah, Ky., tournament.

Josh Hiett's first home run in organized baseball at any level proved the game-winner in Post 63's 9-7 win over Dyersburg, Tenn.

Hiett finished 3 for 5 with a double, homer and two RBIs.

Ronnie Scott picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief. Tanner Hiett went the first five innings.

Post 63 followed that win with a 16-3 six-inning victory over Shelbyville, Tenn.

Jamie Pickel allowed five hits and struck out five over six innings for the win.

Tyler Glidewell led Post 63's attack with two hits and three RBIs. Pickel added a three-run homer.

Post 63 improved to 24-6 and will face Shelbyville, Ky., the reigning Kentucky state champion, in today's first game.

Jackson Senior Babe Ruth sweeps twin bill

Jackson Senior Babe Ruth improved to 19-1 on Thursday by sweeping a doubleheader at Bloomfield, 11-5 and 8-3.

Austin Mueller pitched all seven innings in the opener, allowing eight hits and three earned runs. He struck out eight.

Spencer Sander, Ryan Sprandel, Austin Micken and Matt Stueve all had two of Jackson's 11 hits. Stueve homered.

Jackson again had 11 hits in the nightcap, led by Sprandel with three. Andrew Minson homered and had two hits. Jon Winkler and Zach Pobst each added two hits.

Minson pitched four innings for the win, allowing five hits and two runs. Stueve earned a save with three innings of three-hit, one-run ball. He struck out five.

Jackson hosts Dexter today in a 6 p.m. doubleheader.

Chaffee Sr. Babe Ruth wins pair of 2-1 games

The Chaffee Senior Babe Ruth baseball team posted a pair of 2-1 wins over visiting Cape Giradeau Junior Legion.

Alex Crowe had the game-winning, walk-off hit with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning of the opener.

Alex Davie allowed three hits in a complete-game victory.

Cody Ashcraft pitched six innings for Cape (13-9), allowing one run and four hits. Justin Landewee took the loss. Justin Modglin had two hits for Cape.

Daniel Dooley struck out 11 and allowed two hits in going the game-two distance. Adam Pennington took the loss, giving up one earned run in four innings.
