Taxing question

CAN someone please explain how cutting taxes would result in decreasing deficits? To relate this to the average person, how could you speed up the paying off your debts if I were to decrease the amount of your paycheck? This is the nonsense the GOP has been trying to get us to buy into for the past 40 years. No one likes paying taxes, but lowering them only benefits a very elite few who happen to have the money to buy political influence to further improve their situations and accelerate the erosion of stable government.

Speed concern

I am concerned about the speed limit in front of the entrance to the water park. Out in the country on our county roads the speed limit is 35 mph, but in front of the entrance to the water park it is 50 mph. I am concerned that some family is going to be injured. I wish something could be done about it.

Works both ways

A recently reprinted editorial from the London Telegraph was entitled, "Firing of McChrystal shows weakness, will backfire." Had President Obama not fired McChrystal, I think the editorial headline would have read, "Retention of McChrystal shows weakness, will backfire."

DREAM nightmare

$2.6 million for DREAM projects, yet downtown Cape Girardeau still looks like a nightmare.

Grass in street

I wish there was a penalty for blowing lawn clippings into the street. It is so nasty. Keep our neighborhood and our world clean. Pick up your own mess instead of depending on somebody else to do it.

Doing God's will

I try to live by God's will. I read the story about Abby Johnson quitting her job as the director of an abortion clinic after she helped with a procedure. God bless everybody who tries to do the will of God.

SB40 funds

A Senate Bill 40 article said the SB40 tax can't be used for Special Olympics, one of the best physical activities there is for the developmentally disabled. This is needed for every one of our children. There are a lot of children in Cape Girardeau County who would benefit from this program.

Time to spend

PRESIDENT Obama, I thought you were savvy. Don't give in to the Republicans. They only side with you when they get something out of it. We need to spend. Ronald Reagan's supply-side economics is only one factor in the equation. Spending will help the economy. If the government doesn't spend, why is it collecting taxes? To pay for the debt for all the wars the Republicans want?
