Down in the dump

AFTER a day of working hard in the yard, we loaded our truck to take our trimmings to the dump. Upon arrival, we were told we would have to pay a city fine of $25 because we had failed to put a tarp over our load. We had never heard of this new law, which we were told went into effect in September. Isn't $25 a little excessive? Since we were already there, we decided to go ahead and pay our fine plus our load. We did have an option to go put a tarp over our trimmings and avoid our $25 fine. That would have meant another trip through the city without a tarp. Does this make any sense? Dumpers beware. You are about to be dumped on.

Great light show

I just returned from watching the patriotic electronic light show at the Hoffman Family Fireworks location behind Rhodes Travel Center. A lot of work has been put into this. It's free. It's dedicated to the World War II veterans, and it's awesome. If you have a chance, it's worth going to see. Donations may be given for veterans and to the Honor Tour, which takes veterans to Washington, D.C., all expenses paid.

Wonderful water park

I would like to say how wonderful the new water park is. I enjoyed it thoroughly. There were a lot of people, but you didn't feel like there were a lot of people. It ran smoothly. The only problem I encountered was the long lines at the two big tube water slides. It takes so darned long. They're holding the sliders at the top until the person who just came down is completely out of the water, which takes forever for some people. Other than that, it's a great park. Everybody needs to go. It's a lot of fun.

Sinful greed

DRINK, drugs, gambling and fornication are all sins. But what about greed? I wonder how greed affects the behavior of people.

World spending

THE GOP is proclaiming that some of the other world powers at the G20 summit have it right by stopping their spending. The GOP says this is what it will take to fix our economy. If the rest of the world stops spending on what's left of the stuff we export, how will those businesses pay wages? How long will those workers have jobs? How soon will they lose their homes and savings? How soon will that expand to other businesses? This does not sound like economic recovery to me. Surely I'm not the only person who sees how bad it would be for the rest of the world to stop spending on our products.
