75 years ago: July 17, 1935

The surroundings of Old McKendree Chapel again have taken on that neglected, forsaken look that prevailed before the restoration of the ancient shrine a few years ago; the road leading to the building has become almost impassable.

Improvements being made by the parish of St. Vincent's Catholic Church include laying a new hardwood floor and exterior painting; a new roof was installed several months ago.

100 years ago: July 17, 1910

There are no services at Christ Evangelical Church, the Rev. John V. Plunkett having resigned and gone to another charge.

At Centenary Methodist Church, the Rev. L.D. Lowe, pastor, presents an illustrated sermon describing the conditions in "darkest Africa."
