PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Charges have been filed against two Chester, Ill., men who Perry County deputies say had more than 9 grams of pseudoephedrine, a component commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine.

Kenneth J. Chambers, 43, and Robert L. Clark, 45, have been charged with felony possesion of a chemical with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance and acquiring more pseudoephedrine than allowed by law within a certain time.

The Perry County Sheriff's Department said it applied for warrants for Chambers and Clark last week but because it couldn't obtain warrants immediately the men had to be released.

"We work with our fellow law enforcement agencies across the river on a routine basis, and so they were able to pick Chambers up as soon as the warrants were issued," said Sheriff Gary Schaaf in a news release. "Crime doesn't stop at the river, and neither do our law enforcement efforts."

Clark turned himself in Saturday.

According to the sheriff's department, both men admitted the chemicals found in their possession were meant to be used to manufacture methamphetamine.
