Viola M. "Vi" Green Clardy, 87, of Jackson passed away peacefully, Friday, July 30, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Vi, the eldest of two daughters, was born Oct. 25, 1922, in St. Louis, to Fred and Amy Leadbetter Green.
She was a proud 1940 graduate of Roosevelt High School in St. Louis. She loved music and playing the guitar, but picking the banjo was her lifelong passion. She was a hard-working and very dedicated mother. Vi moved to Jackson in 1990 from Farmington, Mo.
Loving survivors include two children, Jody (David) Hedge of Gainesville, Fla., Tom (Candace) Clardy of Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren, Ken and Meghan Hedge of Gainesville; and a sister, Mildred Smith of Whitewater.
Vi was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Wilson T. "Dub" Clardy, June 6, 1989.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tommy Weems officiating. Interment will be in McGuire Cemetery near Burfordville, where she will be laid to rest next to her grandmother, Martha Matilda Stovall Green.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to First Baptist Church Building Fund in Jackson or to McGuire Cemetery Fund.
