PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The Perryville Board of Aldermen this week will consider an ordinance that provides for the friendly annexation of 26 acres of industrial land as part of Toyota Gosei Inc.'s proposal to build a steering wheel manufacturing plant here.

A five-man committee has been appointed to compile and screen a list of applicants for the position of Chamber of Commerce manager, a post vacated by the resignation of Philip Kearney.

Two Cape Girardeau youngsters showed their stamina by pedaling their bicycles 122 miles the past two days; Larry Lusk and Russell Aldrich, both 14 years old, rode their bikes Wednesday to the farm of Lusk's uncle, Howard New, six miles north of Parma, Mo., spent the night, and then pedaled back to Cape Girardeau on Thursday.

The Missourian Building will be enlarged to meet the growing demands of business, work having started this morning by the J.W. Gerhardt Construction Co.; an addition facing 46 feet on Lorimier Street, and 85 feet deep, will be built.

The city council has decided to sign an application for the government to construct a levee along a short frontage of the city on the south side; the earth dike would extend south from M.E. Leming mill to near the Miles Packing Co. plant.

100 years ago: Aug. 5, 1910

J.H. Doris of Cape Girardeau seems destined to win out over R.M. Sawyer of Jackson in the race for the nomination for county prosecuting attorney on the Republican ticket; the county court is still counting the ballots in Tuesday's primary.

The many friends of the Rev. A.E. Antill, president of St. Vincent's College and pastor of St. Vincent's Catholic Church, regret to learn that he is to leave Cape Girardeau; he has been transferred to Los Angeles.
