Julie Cecile Harter, 66, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Aug. 6, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Julie was born Jan. 25, 1944, at Murphysboro, Ill., daughter of Austin G. and Esther J. Harter. She graduated high school in 1962 from St. Vincents in Perryville, Mo. Julie attended Southeast Missouri State University; earned certification in cosmetology; and graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Clayton Missouri as an LPN, nursing for many years at Barnes and Jewish Hospitals in St. Louis Missouri. She also worked as a nursing supervisor at several long-term care facilities in the St. Louis area.

After surviving a liver transplant, Julie returned to Cape Girardeau, where she pursued her passions for traveling and playing bingo. She also became a continuing education tutor in the Literacy Program. She was a trivia buff and a finalist for the TV show "Jeopardy."

Julie is survived by her sister, Mary Harter of Denver; two brothers, Glen and Julia Harter of Cape Girardeau, and Richard and Teri Harter of Thebes, Ill.; five nieces and nephews; and four great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by her godmother and cousin, Imelda Eisenbeis.

She was preceded in death by her parents. As a longtime health care professional, Julie knew how critical donations are to medical education and research, which led her to direct a full body donation to St. Louis University Medical Center in St. Louis.
