Delta firefighters spent much of Friday morning battling a fire at the Delta High School.

Investigators ruled later Friday the cause of the fire was arson, said Delta Fire Protection District Chief Alvin Frank Jr.

The fire broke out in the school offices on the second day of the school year. Frank said firefighters got the call at 5:43 a.m.

When they appeared on the scene light smoke was showing.

The fire department was alerted to the blaze by a teacher who came in, saw smoke in the building and called 911.

Frank said that the fire was confined to the school's office area.

The superintendent's office sustained heavy smoke damage, and the rest of the building had light smoke damage, Frank said.

School will resume once the county health department gives the all-clear, Frank said.
