The Tilsit 4H Club had a meeting on July 8 at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center in Jackson. Ryan Aufdenberg called the meeting to order. Pledges were led by Joseph Landwee and Landon Hinkebein. Songs were led by Elligh Seyer, Shayna Seyer and Jacob Koenig. There were 28 members and 22 guests present.
There were many project reports. Dakota Huffman gave a demonstration on "poultry;" Gavin Seyer gave one on "the history of Charlais cattle;" Lindsay Hinkebein gave one on "diagnosing illness in goats;" Caleb Aufdenberg gave one on "the food pyramid;" Zachary Aufdenberg gave one on "what is a serving size;" Joseph Landwee gave one on "sunflowers;" Ryan Aufdenberg gave one on "what is certified Angus beef;" and Tara Kirchdoefer gave a demonstration on "how to stop a bleeding wound, make a splint and a sling."
Ten members of the Girardot Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals attended the annual Education Forum and Annual Meeting in July, in Boston, Mass. Members in attendance included: Sherri Jenkins CPS/CAP, Donna Wills CPS, Debbie McKee CPS, Carol Kitchen CPS/CAP, Patty Eck CPS, Frances Wissmiller CPS, Lynn Moore CPS/CAP, Wanda Lang CPS, Sharon Hale CPS and Barb Ostrenga CPS/CAP.
Attendees participated in four days of business meetings and seminar presentations with well known speakers, gaining recertification points for their Certified Professional Secretary and Certified Administrative Professional status.
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63 met Wednesday with Catherine Allison and Shirley Young serving as hostesses for the luncheon before the meeting.
The Rev. Terry Wildman with the Shelter of Hope homeless shelter was presented with 14 handmade quilts assembled by several of auxiliary members, as well as numerous cans of soup, all to be used to provide warmth and food for the homeless.
Barbara Yallaly, president, called the meeting to order.
Linda Kern, membership chairman, reported dues for 2010/2011 are now due. Dorothy Klein, VA&R chairman, reminded members of the monthly birthday party at the Missouri Veterans Home the second Monday of every month.
Vergie Templeton will serve as Sunshine chairman and Peggy Blaylock as Americanism Chairman.
An ice cream social will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Juicy Burgers, homemade ice cream and pie will be served.
Dr. Frank Nickell will be the guest speaker and his topic will cover the Civil War in our area.
Members also brought food items for the Red Star Food Pantry and school supplies for Jefferson Elementary School.
The next meeting will be held Sept. 15 at the Post Home. The auxiliary's project for this month will be to bring food items -- cans of canned meat, cheese and crackers, etc. -- to be used in emergency feeding. Small paper sacks were provided and should be returned with the food items at this meeting, and will be donated to the Shelter of Hope.
