According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 10:35 p.m. on Highway 34 as 19-year-old June L. Morgan swerved to avoid hitting a deer, ran off the road and struck a tree.

Morgan was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was not wearing a seat belt.
