The Cape Girardeau County Archive Center has been able to place four misplaced headstones it received earlier this month from a volunteer. All four stones were returned to Jackson City Cemetery.

Drew Blattner, archive center assistant director, said two of the stones belonged to young siblings and were placed in the original bases, which remained intact.

The center was able to place the third stone using the man's foot stone for positioning.

The fourth tombstone proved a little more difficult, Blattner said. He said using cemetery records they were able to locate the general area, but were unable to be precise. He said the stone's position may be about 5 feet off of the original location.

The stones date from the early 1800s and had been recently used as sidewalk stones until a volunteer found them and delivered them to the center.
