Crazy hair

I'M wondering why people wear their hair looking like they haven't combed it for a week or two. Some of them have it spiked, and they think this is cool. I can't understand how they can program their brains to look that way. They sure don't know how other people see them.

New report cards

I have children at Jackson Middle School and in elementary school. I am amazed there's so much fuss over separating boys and girls for the lunch period. Where is the news coverage and community discussion about the new elementary report card system that has eliminated letter grades and spelling tests? I am much more concerned about my fourth-grader learning to spell than who my sixth-grader is sharing lunch with.

It wouldn't hurt

I don't understand the people who say that having a homeless shelter in the old federal building would destroy downtown Cape Girardeau. Downtown is not the way it was. Look at it. Don't look at it as it was in the past. Look at it as it is now. A homeless shelter isn't going to hurt anything.

Making fun

AS for Rush Limbaugh and others making fun of the first lady: I don't see a problem with it. She is in the public eye. She makes a spectacle of herself. And she is going on expensive trips and spending money like it's going out of style. It's either make fun and laugh or cry.

Nab the criminals

CAN the police do anything right? Speeders want them to chase burglars and leave them alone. Drinkers want them to leave teen drinkers alone and chase drug dealers. I have a novel idea: Why not have the police chase lawbreakers?

Thanks for respect

I would like to thank all the people who pulled over out of respect for our funeral procession on Kingshighway Aug. 22. It touched our hearts to see you take a moment for us. It was appreciated.

Separating students

I support Jackson Middle School in separating boys and girls at lunch. Some girls will not eat in front of boys, and this will ensure that students are eating. It will also cut down on the flirting and trying to impress each other. Go, Jackson. I have worked with this age group, and separating boys and girls is not a bad thing. I imagine the cafeteria will be quieter because no one will be trying to impress some girl or boy. Give it a chance. If you ever have worked at a school, you would understand this.
