The Town & Country FCE Club met Aug. 12 at the home of Linda Thompson.

Judy Niswonger, vice president, presided in the absence of Carolyn Thompson, president.

Thompson read a poem by Helen Steiner Rice titled "Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God".

Roll call was answered by eight members and one visitor by answering the question, "Do you take a generic drug?"

A thank you note was received from the Young American 4-H Club for the $25 given to Dortha's Clover Kids Day Camp.

The projects for August will include a Back to School Party for the children at Cottonwood Treatment Center and bingo prizes for The Missouri Veterans Home. The fair booth for the SEMO District Fair was discussed and assignments were made. The booth will be put up at 9 a.m. on Sept. 10.

Dues for club, state, and national were paid for the year of 2011.

Officers for 2011 will be Darlene McCain, president; Lois Seabaugh, vice president; Mary Klaproth, secretary; Sue Jones, treasurer; Linda Thompson, reporter; Doris Wilkinson, songs and games; and Shirley Heise, cards and flowers.

A donation of $25 was given to Pennies for Friendship to build water wells in impoverished countries.

A report was given on the National Conference they attended in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Annual Conference will be held September 23-24 at the Viking Hotel and Klaproth, Jones, and Linda Thompson will be attending. Our fall District Meeting will be held Oct. 5 at the Community Building in Patterson, Mo. The theme is FCE Fruits of Harvest. The fall County Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the University of Missouri Extension Office in Jackson.

Wilkinson gave the program on using medications wisely. She also used the Hearthfire Series #27, "Someone's in the USA saying show me the power of healing foods."

Linda Thompson gave each person a handout on understanding over-the-counter medications.

Shirley Heise won the door prize.

Our next meeting will be on at 7 p.m. on Sept. 9 at hosted by Niswonger.

Cape Area CWU

The Cape Girardeau Area Church Women United met on Aug. 6 at Maple United Methodist Church with 12 members present. Instead of Bible study, Joyce King told of her trip to the Mt. Sequoyah Conference on Ecumenical Mission. The theme was God's reign of peace, justice and love.

The board meeting was opened by Shirley Patterson, co-leader. The minutes were read and approved, and copies of the treasurer's report were handed out.

A special presentation was made by Sheri Johnson who discussed Angel Productions, Sharing Faith Thru Fun, and the upcoming 4th Annual Free Christmas Carnival to be held 2 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the VFW in Cape Girardeau. This is a free event for all kids age 1 through 12. Volunteers are needed to help with the supervision.

The July C.R.O.P. Sale and Luncheon was discussed. Teen Challenge members were a welcome addition to the event, helping with the chores, and for their uplifting songs of praise.

The Annual Awareness Luncheon will be Sept, 17 at First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. Registration will be at 9:30 a.m. with the program starting at 10 a.m. Speakers talking on their ministries will include Chaplain Terry Wildman on the homeless, Susie Dodd on prayer shawls, Kathy Berkbigler on ugly quilts, and Joanie Talley on Chris' ARK (Alzheimer Resource Kits). Everyone is asked to bring a salad to share at Noon. There will also be a dedication of kits being donated to the Festival of Sharing in October. A freewill offering will be accepted for the scholarship fund.

The Human Rights Award was voted on and the winner will be announced in November at the World Community Day celebration.

Fellowship of the Least Coin was collected, as well as any labels and boxtops.
