Marble Hill, Mo. -- Verla Mae Sutton, age 71, of Marble Hill passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at Woodland Hills Nursing Home in Marble Hill. She was born June 22, 1939, in Bollinger County, Mo., daughter of Melvin and Mahala Welker Mayfield. She and George L. Sutton were married May 6, 1967, and he passed away June 18, 1985...

Marble Hill, Mo. -- Verla Mae Sutton, age 71, of Marble Hill passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at Woodland Hills Nursing Home in Marble Hill.

She was born June 22, 1939, in Bollinger County, Mo., daughter of Melvin and Mahala Welker Mayfield. She and George L. Sutton were married May 6, 1967, and he passed away June 18, 1985.

Verla worked for the hat factory in Marble Hill as a seamstress and was a member of the Hurricane Fork General Baptist Church.

Survivors include three brothers, Clarence Mayfield of Marble Hill, Lester Mayfield of Scott City, Donald Mayfield of Patton, Mo.; a sister, Mabel Patton of Marble Hill; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and two aunts.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Jimmie Fulbright and Steven Sander officiating. Burial will follow in Hurricane Fork Cemetery near Marble Hill.
