As a veteran, I'm extremely proud that the VFW has endorsed Jo Ann Emerson. Jo Ann is a true champion for our active-duty military, veterans and their families. The VFW is supporting Jo Ann, yet her opponent cites his military record as his key qualification for office. We thank and admire him for his service, but how will he serve us in Congress?...

EDITOR'S NOTE: The sentence in this paid election letter about Speaker Nancy Pelosi giving $2,000 to the Tommy Sowers campaign for Congress was inaccurate. The Emerson campaign said the $2,000 should have stated the amount was given to the Sowers campaign from the Taking the Hill Political Action Committee. The Sowers campaign confirmed the donation from the Taking the Hill PAC, which is chaired by Patrick Murphy.

We know Mr. Sowers supports the health care takeover. He's received more money from California and New York combined than he has from Missouri, even accepting $2,000 from Nancy Pelosi. He routinely submits false and misleading information to this paper choosing to smear Jo Ann rather than offer his own ideas. Heck, his most vocal supporter is Howard Dean.

In Congress, we deserve better than what Mr. Sowers is offering, and I encourage veterans and voters across our district to enthusiastically support Jo Ann in November.
