Southeast Missouri State's win in Saturday's Ohio Valley Conference opener led to the Redhawks nearly sweeping the OVC's weekly individual football honors.

The league announced Sunday that Southeast players captured three of the four awards for the first time since 2002.

Junior quarterback Matt Scheible is the offensive player of the week, senior cornerback Aaron Grimes is the co-defensive player of the week and sophomore kicker Drew Geldbach is the specialist of the week.

All three stood out during a 30-17 victory at Murray State as Southeast won its OVC opener for the first time since 2004.

Scheible rushed for a career-high 134 yards on 16 carries and completed 12 of 17 passes for 140 yards. He threw a touchdown pass and was not intercepted for the fifth straight game. He also was not sacked.

Scheible, who averaged 8.4 yards per carry and had a career-long 60-yard run, became the first Southeast quarterback to rush for 100 or more yards in a game since 2007.

Grimes, in his first season as a starter at Southeast, had a career-high 14 tackles to lead the Redhawks. He also came up with his first career interception.

Grimes, who had eight tackles in limited action during his first Southeast season last year after transferring from junior college, is tied for the team-lead with 22 tackles.

Geldbach remained perfect on field goals by hitting from 47, 40 and 37 yards. He also made all three of his extra points.

Geldbach is 4 of 4 on field goals, including a 53-yarder in his first collegiate attempt during the opener at Ball State. The former transfer from Missouri, where he did not play football before redshirting at Southeast last year, is 4 of 4 on extra points.

Southeast (1-1) plays at Southern Illinois on Saturday.
