PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Perry County deputies seized more than 6 pounds of marijuana and made four drug-related arrests at a checkpoint conducted Sunday.
The checkpoint was operated by deputies at exit 135 on Interstate 55.
Shaun D. Peoples, 33, Naporche S. Steele, 20, and Tashara K. Steele, 20, all of St. Louis, were charged Monday with the distribution of a controlled substance.
According to news release from the sheriff's department, deputies found more than 5 pounds of marijuana in Peoples' vehicle after stopping him at the checkpoint. Naporche and Tashara Steele allegedly had traveled to Texas to buy marijuana and were making their return trip to St. Louis when deputies stopped them on Interstate 55.
Also stopped at the location was Baraki M. Glasper, 33, of Lithonia, Ga., who allegedly was carrying 1.7 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle. Glasper was charged Monday with distribution of a controlled substance, a felony, and misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
All four are being held at the Perry County Jail on $50,000 bonds.
Peoples, Naporche are all set to appear in court Sept. 21. Glasper will appear before a judge Oct. 19.
