Carole Hirsch Folwell, 69, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born July 18, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Ralph L. and Laverne Moore Hirsch. She and John D. Folwell were married in August 1968 in Alton, Ill.

Carole was a graduate of Central High School. She attended Southeast Missouri State University two years and Methodist Hospital Nursing School in Memphis, Tenn., three years, receiving a degree in registered nursing.

She worked as a nurse in Texas, an instructor at St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis, and worked in the emergency room at St. Joseph's Hospital in Alton. She later worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block in Alton.

Carole and her husband moved to Cape Girardeau in January 1999. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau. Before moving to Cape Girardeau she was active at College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton and Collingwood Presbyterian Church in Toledo, Ohio.

Her hobbies included quilting, gardening, sailing and making those around her laugh.

Survivors include her husband, John D. Folwell of Cape Girardeau; a son, Nathan Folwell and wife Sarah Schmidt of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a daughter, Mary Grace Folwell and husband Jeff Riedle of Annapolis, Md.; four brothers, Donald (Faye) Hirsch of St. Louis, John (Jeanne) Hirsch of Cape Girardeau, Joseph (Susan) Hirsch of Indianapolis, Charles (Jane) Hirsch of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Mary (Daniel) Davis of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Alice Marie and Frances Ann Folwell of Brooklyn; two stepgrandsons, Nathan and Stuart Riedle of Annapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Vincent and the Rev. Paul Kabo officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Lutheran Family and Children's Services of Missouri "Memory Matters" or Southeast Hospice.
