Northwest Mo. wildlife refuge celebrates 75th year

MOUND CITY, Mo. -- The Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge near the northwest Missouri town of Mound City is celebrating its 75th year.

The St. Joseph News-Press reported that Missouri Western State University's Wildlife Society members will put on programs Saturday to commemorate the anniversary.

Visitors will be able to canoe the wetlands, hike, and shoot rifles and bows. There also will be demonstrations of waterfowl blind building, fur trapping and bird calling.

Western senior and Wildlife Society president Ben Limle will take groups into the Loess hills and explain the importance of the region's soil and foliage. Limle says other society members will also lead activities.
