~ Southeast's tailback now leads the country in rushing

Southeast Missouri State senior tailback Henry Harris became the NCAA Division I-AA national rushing leader after the Redhawks' latest victory.

Harris' school-record fifth consecutive 100-yard rushing game, a 188-yard performance in Saturday's 19-17 win over Tennessee State, vaulted him to the top of the list.

Harris has rushed for 868 yards while averaging 6.1 yards per carry. He has scored seven touchdowns.

In addition to the rushing, Harris also now is the national leader in all-purpose yardage with an average of 227 yards per game.

Harris leads Southeast in receptions with 15 and kickoff returns with a 22.6-yard average.

Harris appears certain to notch just the seventh 1,000-yard rushing season in school history and become only the fifth Southeast player to accomplish that feat.

Harris, who needs 94 yards to become the fifth player in school history to reach 2,000 career rushing yards, is on pace to break Southeast's single-season record of 1,371 yards set by Kelvin "Earthquake" Anderson in 1992.

Southeast, No. 18 nationally for its highest ranking since moving up to Division I-AA in 1991, is 5-1 overall and 4-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play for the program's best OVC start since joining the league in 1991.

The Redhawks visit Austin Peay (2-3, 1-1) on Saturday.
