KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A chimpanzee that ran wild through a Kansas City neighborhood will get a new home at the Kansas City Zoo.

The chimp, named Sueko, escaped from her owner Tuesday and ran through a south Kansas City neighborhood. She scared neighbors and pounded on cars before her owner was able to coax her into a cage.

The zoo will not be a new experience for Sueko. The Kansas City Star reports that she lived there in 1995 but was returned to her owner after he threatened legal action and promised to keep her out of the city.

Zoo director Randy Wisthoff said Sueko will be quarantined for at least 30 days before being slowly introduced to the zoo's other chimps. He says assimilating the chimp will be a long and difficult process because she's been treated like a human for 21 years.
