75 years ago: Oct. 24, 1935

Former St. Louis mayor Henry Kiel and former judge Charles H. Daues of St. Louis are in Cape Girardeau on business in the federal court; Kiel is receiver for the street car system in his city, and Daues is an attorney for the receiver; early in the morning, the two men drive out to old McKendree Chapel, Kiel having a desire to see the old church.

Only the Poplar Bluff (Mo.) Mules stand between the Central Tigers and a perfect season in the Southeast Missouri Conference for the 1935 season, as the Bengals trounce the Farmington (Mo.) Knights 45-6 in Houck Field Stadium.

100 years ago: Oct. 24, 1910

The commissioners for the Little River Drainage District start on a trip over the railroad systems of Southeast Missouri, in order to assess damages and benefits accruing from the extensive drainage work that has been done in Missouri; the commissioners are Judge William Cracraft of Jackson, M.O. Reed of Bloomfield, Mo., and Luther Conrad of Campbell, Mo.

Minnie Flottman of St. Louis is in the city visiting her son, William Vedder; she is accompanied by her granddaughter, Minnie Brandon.
