Nashport, Ohio -- Lloyd Clyde Merick Jr., 74, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010 at Autumn Health Care in Zanesville, Ohio.

He was born Dec. 18, 1935 in Missouri to his late parents Lloyd C. and Helen (Wilson) Merick Sr. He married Beverly DeMooy Sept. 14, 1974 in Lima, Ohio.

He spent his entire life as a math and science teacher either at the high school or college level. He started his career as a teacher at Bell City, Mo., High School, where he had graduated from in 1954. He also taught at Delta and Ste. Genevieve, Mo., schools. Most of his teaching career was in Ohio at the Ohio State University -- Newark campus and at Lima Senior High School from 1973 to 1999, also where he retired. In addition to his lifelong commitment to education, Lloyd was a member of Newark Baptist Temple in Heath, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Beverly Merick; a son, Michael (Stephany) Merick of Hilliard, Ohio; three daughters, Crystal (Joe) Crossley of Newark, Ohio, Leanna (Carl) Williams of Utica, Ohio, Janet Hardin of Lebanon, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Effie Lee Watkins of Sikeston, Mo.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Cynthia DeMooy of Westerville, Ohio; many special friends from the Bell City class of 1954; and beloved dog Queenie.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Newark Baptist Temple, 81 Licking View Drive, Heath, OH 43056.
