CAMPBELL, Mo. -- The investigation into an altercation in which a father is accused of shooting his son Sunday afternoon was expected to be turned over to the Dunklin County prosecuting attorney today.

According to a statement released by Campbell Police Chief Weldon Wallace, a father allegedly shot his 28-year-old son after getting into a fight shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday.

The altercation reportedly took place at a residence in the 800 block of Morgan Street, which is located off U.S. 62.

The son, Wallace said, was shot in the stomach with a black-powder pistol. He reportedly was flown to a Cape Girardeau, Mo., hospital for treatment. There was no word on the extent of the man's injuries by the Daily American Republic newspaper's press time Monday morning.

The shooting was investigated by Campbell officers, who were assisted by officers from the Dunklin County Sheriff's Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Wallace said the results of the investigation were expected to turned over to Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Sokoloff today for determination of what charges should be filed.
