Myrtle Ellen Vogel, 77, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She had resided at Monticello House in Jackson since January. She was born April 5, 1933, in Union County, Ill., to Hiram P. and Dorothy R. Turner Butterfield. She and Clarence "Tony" Vogel were married July 24, 1950, in Cape Girardeau. Myrtle Ellen Vogel, 77, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She had resided at Monticello House in Jackson since January.

She was born April 5, 1933, in Union County, Ill., to Hiram P. and Dorothy R. Turner Butterfield. She and Clarence "Tony" Vogel were married July 24, 1950, in Cape Girardeau. He passed away April 22, 2010.

Myrtle and Tony were blessed with six children who remember her as a loving, devoted homemaker. While she enjoyed all types of crafting, she was an especially gifted seamstress, and enjoyed making clothes for her children. She was also proficient at quilting, and tatting. In earlier years she taught crocheting and knitting at Sears and the Singer Store in Cape Girardeau.

She was a longtime member of St. Mary Cathedral.

Loving survivors include two sons, John (Helen) Vogel of Oxnard, Calif., and children Jimmy Ledesma, Lorina Yahatta, and Katherine Vogel; Paul (Wanda) Vogel of Scott City and children Sarah and Brian Vogel; four daughters, Lora (Ed) Mueller of Waterloo, Ill., and children Chad and Lance Mueller; Mary (Ernie) Carson of Conway, Ark., and children Rebecca Young, Travis and Kurt Braun; Theresa (Stephen) Baugh of Jackson and children Josh, Beth, and Allison Baugh; Susan Burgener of Decatur, Ill., and daughter Caitlyn Morrison; four great-grandchildren; and a daughter-at-heart, Miriam Ganiel of Jackson.

Also surviving are four sisters-in-law, Helen (the late Cletus) Butterfield, Jean (the late Earl) Butterfield, Pat (the late Carl) Butterfield, Helen (the late Charles) Butterfield; a brother-in-law, James (the late Velma) Ketcham; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Fern Vogel.

In addition to her husband and the siblings mentioned above, she is also preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy June Gibson and Judy (Larry) McKeown; an infant brother; and her beloved dog, Heidi.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Tom Kiefer and Deacon Walt Biri will officiate parish prayers at 6 p.m., immediately followed by the rosary led by Biri and Sister Lucille Zerr.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson, with the Revs. John Harth and Tom Kiefer and Biri officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence or the American Diabetes Foundation.
