BENTON, Mo. -- A Scott County official has been chosen to serve on the Missouri Association of Counties Executive Board.

County Recorder Tom R. Dirnberger was elected third vice president Nov. 22 during the annual conference at Tan-Tar-A.

MAC is a not-for-profit corporation with provides assistance to the 114 counties in the state in matters pertaining to local, state and federal government activities.

Dirnberger said the organization is for representatives of all county offices, something that attracted him to serve the organization.

"I'm able to get more involved with county government all over the state," he said. "You learn a lot, and are able to understand the needs of all of the other affiliates of county government."

For the past two years, he as been at-large director for MAC. Also in 2007 and 2008, Dirnberger was the president of the Missouri Recorders Association, which in turn made him a director of the MAC Executive Board.

Dirnberger's position is a one-year term. He called it a "stepping stone" that may lead to him being elected as president in 2014.
