June Janet Allmon, 73, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Dec. 25, 1937, in Fieldon, Ill., daughter of Charles and Virginia Christian Karaushaar. June was the first female licensed by the Coast Guard to pilot a ferryboat. She operated Tower Rock Ferry in Wittenberg, Mo., many years. She had an avid love for quilting...

June Janet Allmon, 73, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Dec. 25, 1937, in Fieldon, Ill., daughter of Charles and Virginia Christian Karaushaar.

June was the first female licensed by the Coast Guard to pilot a ferryboat. She operated Tower Rock Ferry in Wittenberg, Mo., many years. She had an avid love for quilting.

Loving survivors include three sons, Keith and David Inman of Jackson, Gary Inman of Frederick, Md.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 11 siblings.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
