The Southeast Black & Gold Chapter of University of Missouri Alumni Association met Monday at the MU Extension Center in Jackson. There were six board members, Tom Frasher, Roger Guyot, Melody Hagans, Melissa Miller, Larry Simon, and Mary Talbut, and a guest, Richard Proffer, present.

Frasher gave the treasurer's report.

We discussed and planned for the annual Founder's Day event to be held on Feb. 24 at Dexter Bar-B-Que in Cape Girardeau. Frasher reported that Jill Kohut will donate a set of framed University of Missouri pictures for the silent auction and will provide a dessert for the event. Frasher will donate a Stonie's Sausage Shop basket and an autographed MU basketball. Frasher reported that the chapter has a Gary Pinkel autographed football for the auction. Talbut will try to get some tickets for a Show Me Center event. Frasher will be in Columbia, Mo., and will pick up some additional MU items for our silent auction. Suggested items include a framed picture of a Tiger on the Quadrangle, some type of small MU lawn flag, and a felt wall hanging depicting the various MU logos from 1925 to present. We all need to contact people and businesses we know to request items for the silent auction. Simon will enter the Silent Auction as an event on mizzoualumni.org. Hagans, Frasher, and Simon volunteered to arrive at Dexter Bar-B-Que around 5 p.m. on Feb. 24 to set up for the event. Hagans will contact Dr. Frank Nickell, a History professor at Southeast Missouri State University, and invite him to be our guest speaker at the event.

Frasher reported on our planned Networking Event for College Graduates looking for a first job or seeking a better job. Session one: the resume and interview workshop will be held 9 a.m. to noon on Jan. 19 at the MU Extension Center in Jackson. Stephanie Heffernan will send an email invitation to all recent (within the last three years) chapter area MU graduates. Proffer is preparing a press release that will be aimed at all chapter area college graduates, regardless of school of graduation or when they graduated. Attendees are asked to register in advance by both contacting the Extension Center at 243-3581 and creating an online profile at www.missouricareersource.com by Jan. 14. Proffer and some of the board members will be on hand at 8:30 a.m. to guide attendees and assist attendees who failed to register in advance. The Extension Center will provide liquid refreshments for attendees and chapter board members will provide snack food.

Frasher reported on the planned diversity project, a movie at Cape 14 Cine for a diverse group of people. Frasher will prepare and submit an application for a diversity grant to the MAA. We have yet to select the movie for the event.

We discussed our planned student picnic for June 16. The picnic will be held at Shelter #4 at Cape County Park North. We will once again provide gift bags for the students. Miller volunteered to be in charge of obtaining the Tiger Stripe Ice Cream for the event.

Simon presented a letter to Frasher that he received from the MAA, regarding MAA officer, committee chair, and governing board available positions. Frasher read part of the letter to the group. The MAA is seeking nominations for some of the positions. Simon will contact Dale Gerecke to see if he is interested in being nominated for any of the positions. Talbut said she might be interested in the Schools and Colleges Committee Chair Position. Nominations are due by March 1.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the MU Extension Center in Jackson.
