STATLER GETS HOUSE RESOLUTION

State Rep. Scott Lipke presented a Missouri House resolution Dec. 15 to Judge Peter Statler. Statler has retired after serving as associate circuit judge of Cape Girardeau County Division IV. Lipke was sworn in to Statler's job Dec. 28.

TATE JOINS ALLEN CHRISTIAN

DEXTER, Mo. -- Jimmy Tate joined the sales staff at Allen Christian Buick GMC.

BOARD OF REAL ESTATE OFFICERS SWORN IN

DEXTER, Mo. -- The 2011 officers for the Stoddard County Board of Real Estate were sworn in during the organization's annual holiday gathering. Board member Melanie Miller of Trammell & Son Realty swore in the following officers: Mary Worley, treasurer, Dexter Realty; Rachel Watson, secretary, Real Living Young Realty; Kathleen Dover, vice president, Dexter Realty; and Shirley Carney, president, Trammell & Son.

NORDENIA HONORS EMPLOYEES

Doug Currington, process development technician of Farmington, Mo., was employee of the month for December at NORDENIA USA Inc. He has been with the company since April 1, 1991. NORDENIA also recognizes the following employment anniversaries: Bradley Bowman and Martina Welker, 20 years of service; Kevin Jones, 15 years; Joanie Hendricks, 10 years; and Ronald Gilliland, Kevin Schwab and Temper Jones, five years.

LOCALS APPOINTED TO STATE BOARDS

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- On Dec. 3, Gov. Jay Nixon announced appointments to 10 boards and commissions, including four Southeast Missouri residents. Brandy Mouser, Dexter, was appointed to the Board of Therapeutic Massage. Mouser owns Salon 10 in Dexter. The governor appointed her for a term ending June 17, 2013. Charles "Drew" Juden, Sikeston, was appointed to the Homeland Security Advisory Council. Juden has been director of public safety for Sikeston since April 2004 and has been with the department since 1978. He was appointed for a term ending at the pleasure of the governor. Janette Call, Perryville, was appointed to the Missouri Board of Examiners for Hearing Instrument Specialists. Call owns and operates Better Hearing Solutions of Perryville and Ste. Genevieve, Mo. The governor appointed her for a term ending Jan. 11, 2013. C. Cash Gill, Dexter, was appointed to the Missouri Real Estate Appraisers Commission. Gill is a state-certified general real estate appraiser who holds appraiser licenses from more than 20 states. The governor appointed him for a term ending Sept. 12, 2013.

Chad Callis is the new manager at Ozark Medical Supply's Cape Girardeau branch, 760 S. Kingshighway, Suite L. Ozark is a full-service home medical equipment provider with branches in Cape Girardeau and Poplar Bluff, Mo.

DARBY EARNS ROOKIE HONOR

Kelly Darby, Jackson, was Modern Woodmen of America's Rookie of the Month in the Missouri East Region. The honor is given to a full-time representative that has been with Modern Woodmen for less than three years and is leading the region in production. Darby joined Modern Woodmen in November.

VOLKERDING EARNS RECOGNITION

Ken Volkerding, Jackson, was Modern Woodmen of America's Representative of the Month in the Missouri East Region for October and November. He joined Modern Woodmen in October 2004.

HINKEBEIN NAMED FINANCIAL REP

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- David Hinkebein, Perryville, joined Modern Woodmen of America as a financial representative serving Southeast Missouri.

TRACY, REYNOLDS NAMED TO STATE BOARD

Incoming Cape Girardeau County Presiding Commissioner Clint Tracy and Assessor Jerry Reynolds were named as Cape Girardeau County's representatives on the Missouri Association of Counties board of directors. As a first-class county, the county is entitled to two positions on the board. One representative must be a commissioner and the second must be an elected official. Tracy replaces outgoing Presiding Commissioner Gerald Jones. Reynolds has served on the board since the 1990s.

LARKINS PROMOTED TO DEPUTY DIVISION DIRECTOR

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- Steve Larkins was promoted to deputy division director for the Missouri Department of Corrections, reported the Park Hills Daily Journal. The former warden of the Bonne Terre Eastern Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center now oversees six correctional institutions.

TONY SAMUEL EARNS COACHING HONOR

Tony Samuel, football coach at Southeast Missouri State University, was named the American Football Coaches Association Region 3 coach of the year. The AFCA recognizes five regional coach of the year winners in the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA). Samuel, who was recently named Ohio Valley Conference coach of the year, is also one of 20 finalists for the Eddie Robinson Award, which honors the FCS national coach of the year.

Dille works Fridays at Dille Discount Drug Store, and for the past six months has worked Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Towne Pharmacy in Bloomfield, Mo.

APPLEWHITE EARNS CDA CREDENTIAL

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Dianne Applewhite was awarded a child development associate credential in recognition of her outstanding work with young children. The credential was awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C., which represents the early childhood education profession.

SEMO FACULTY RECEIVE KENTUCKY COLONEL AWARDS

Dr. Greg Boyd, professor of industrial and engineering technology at Southeast Missouri State University, and Dr. Brad Deken, assistant professor of industrial and engineering technology, have been named Honorary Kentucky Colonels. The Governor's Office in the Commonwealth of Kentucky honored the two with the Kentucky Colonel distinction Dec. 8 for their advisement and positive role in assisting the area solar company, StarGaze Energy. Being named a Kentucky Colonel is the highest honor awarded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Governor and the Secretary of State give commissions for Kentucky Colonel to individuals to recognize noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to a community, state or the nation. StarGaze Energy of Paducah, Ky., is a clean energy company involved in solar technologies and its integration. Boyd was nominated by the company's leadership team and accepted as an Honorary Kentucky Colonel for his engineering and industrial advisement to the company's executives. Deken was nominated by the company's leadership team and accepted as an Honorary Kentucky Colonel for his professional advisement in micro-controls and robotics.

DEXTER FIRE DEPT. HONORS EMPLOYEES

DEXTER, Mo. -- On Dec. 14, Jeremy Freeman was chosen by his fellow Dexter firefighters as Firefighter of the Year for 2010. Additionally, Darrell Penberthy and Donnie Jenkins each received department jackets to commemorate their 10 years of service to the department.

LOCALS ATTEND FARM BUREAU MEETING

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Several Farm Bureau members from Cape Girardeau County were among voting delegates at the Missouri Farm Bureau's 96th annual meeting December 5-7 at Lake of the Ozarks. Nearly 1,400 farmers and ranchers from throughout the state attended this year's meeting. Voting delegates approved policy positions on an array of state and national issues affecting agriculture and rural Missouri. Cape Girardeau County Farm Bureau members who participated in the meeting were Robert and Shirley Aufdenberg; Mark and Lisa Reitzel; Susan Ahrens; Dale Steffens; Jeremie and Laura Nothdurft; and Marcus and Kelli Birk.

CPA David D. Seabaugh is now working at Baer & Edington LLC Certified Public Accountants and Consultants in Jackson. With the addition of Seabaugh, the firm is developing a new division offering audit services in a variety of areas. Seabaugh has 17 years of audit and accounting experience, conducting audits of not-for-profit organizations, governmental entities, affordable housing entities and small businesses.

The newest members of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce board of directors are Connie Werner of Montgomery Bank and Jeff Martin of Realty Executives of Cape County. Tom Ludwig of Ludwig and Boner was re-elected to the chamber board.

DEXTER, Mo. -- John and LaVeda Banken, owners of the Hickory Log Restaurant, recently honored three employees for their continued years of employment. Those recognized were Louise Cooper, 40 years of service; Judy Casey, 20 years; and Chris Rizzo, five years.

PULLEY APPOINTED TO 911 BOARD

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- The Stoddard County Commission appointed Det. Lt. Trevor Pulley to the County 911 Services Board of Directors at their regular meeting Dec. 20. Pulley, who serves in the Dexter Police Department, replaces Paul Haubold.

BERNIE HIRES SUPERINTENDENT

BERNIE, Mo. -- The Board of Education at Bernie Schools elected to hire Douglas Ruck, a 23-year veteran in the educational field, as superintendent beginning with the 2011-12 school year, replacing current superintendent John Boyd. Ruck has been a school administrator for nine years, with the past three as superintendent in Vibernum, Mo.

INSURANCE AGENTS RECOGNIZED

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- David Danieley, an American Family Insurance agent in Farmington, Mo., and Edward Felker, American Family Insurance agent in Bonne Terre, Mo., were recognized for customer satisfaction excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Insurance Agency Program, reported the Park Hills Daily Journal. Danieley and Felker join other American Family agents who have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to outstanding customer service.

TRAVEL CONSULTANTS EARN CERTIFICATION

Shari Elfrink, president of 1st Class Travel in Cape Girardeau, and Susan Berghoff, travel consultant, both graduates of Marriott Hotels International Hotel Excellence program, are now certified as Hotel Sales Specialists for 2011. This is the 10th year in a row that both Elfrink and Berghoff have met requirements to continue their certification. Marriott Hotels International graduates are entitled to exclusive benefits and promotions.
