Sweets & Strings benefits KRCU

Sweets & Strings, a classical guitar concert, will be presented Feb. 11 at the Shuck Recital Hall as a benefit for KRCU public radio. The 7:30 p.m. concert will feature Patrick Rafferty and Erika Beasley. A reception will follow in the Crisp Museum. Visual Arts Co-op taking applications

The Visual Arts Cooperative is taking applications from artists who want to join the group. Artists should send a letter of interest and description of work and six to 10 photographs or a CD with images of works to Visual Arts Co-op, 385 Kaskaskia Lane, Jackson, MO 63755. Materials are due by Feb. 15. Positions will be filled from juried applications based on a balanced, varied media and style of presentation. Museum calls for watercolor entries

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Springfield Art Museum in Springfield is sponsoring Watercolor U.S.A., 2011, a national competitive exhibition to recognize and encourage watermedia painting. Deadline for the contest is March 29. Artists must be 18 or older to participate. An entry fee of $15 will be charged for a maximum of two entries per artist. Paintings must have been executed using water-soluble paint on paper or a paper derivative. All artwork must have been done since Jan. 1, 2010, and not previously shown at the Springfield Art Museum. Approximately $40,000 in cash, patron and purchase awards will be awarded. Selected artwork will be exhibited at the museum June 11 through Aug. 7. Faculty percussion recital scheduled

The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Music will present a faculty recital by percussionist Shane Mizicko, with guest percussionists Chris Crawford, Jay Contrino and Eric Scherer, and guest violinist Brandon Christensen. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Shuck Recital Hall. The program will include more than 20 instruments from the percussion family with a variety of pieces ranging from upbeat and exciting to subdued and relaxing. Cost is $8, $7 for faculty and staff $7 and $3 for Southeast students. Tickets may be purchased at the River Campus box office or by calling 651-2265. Tickets for Celtic Woman on sale

Tickets are on sale for "Celtic Woman: Songs from the Heart," scheduled for 7:30 p.m. May 2 at the Show Me Center. The all-female ensemble will be accompanied by a six-piece band and the Aontas Choir performing renditions of Irish standards, classical favorites and contemporary hits. Tickets for the concert range from $33.50 to $61.50 and are available at the Show Me Center ticket office and all Ticketmaster outlets.
