Jackson woman pleads guilty to meth possession

A 40-year-old woman who authorities said was cooking methamphetamine in her Jackson home last year pleaded guilty Monday to one count of possession of methamphetamine at the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse.

Charla Huston, with Mickael Minner, 41, was arrested in September after Jackson police and the Missouri Division of Family Services issued a search warrant at their home on Brandom Street.

In exchange for Huston's guilty plea, the state dropped charges of child endangerment and possession of methamphetamine precursors. Assistant prosecuting attorney Angel Woodruff said she'd be recommending probation, but Circuit Court Judge Benjamin Lewis told the defendant he didn't have to follow her recommendation.

Lewis ordered a sentencing assessment report be completed and set Huston's next hearing for March 14.

If Lewis doesn't follow the state's recommendation, Huston faces up to seven years in prison.

The co-defendant in the case, Minner, pleaded not guilty to similar charges in December. He's facing charges of possession of methamphetamine, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine precursors. He'll appear in a Cape Girardeau County courtroom again March 7.

In court documents, authorities allege 100 pills believed to be pseudoephedrine, ecstasy and Xanax were also found in the home.
