CHAMBER HONORS FARMERS

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Area farmers were honored Jan. 27 at a Farmer Recognition Luncheon hosted in conjunction with the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce's monthly meeting, reported the Sikeston Standard Democrat. Justin Landers was named Outstanding Young Farmer by the Sikeston Jaycees; Thomas E. "Jake" Fisher received the Agribusiness Service Award of the Year; and Melissa Silverthorn was named Farm Woman of the Year. Joe Heckemeyer accepted the Farm Family of the Year Award on behalf of himself, his parents Tony and Betty Heckemeyer and his brothers, Andrew and Matthew Heckemeyer.

DALE NAMED DIRECTOR OF COUNTY BOARD

Bob Dale was hired as executive director of the Cape Girardeau County Board for Developmental Disabilities, formerly known as the SB40 board. As of Jan. 1, Dale is responsible for overseeing distribution of the board's levy to existing programs and agencies that receive funding through Senate Bill 40. He will also review new requests for program funding and develop and implement new programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Dale has more than 20 years of experience working with people with disabilities.

CAPE CVB HAS NEW DIRECTOR

Dana Gordon is the new director of public relations and marketing at the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau. She is a recent graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, with a degree in public relations and marketing and experience in coordinating events. Gordon replaces Stephanie Lynch, who now serves as public relations account executive for the Missouri Division of Tourism at Hoffman Lewis Advertising Agency, St. Louis.

RED CROSS ADDS VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Ann Douglass-Click is the new volunteer services coordinator at the American Red Cross Southeast Missouri chapter. She works with volunteers in the 11-county service area of Perry, Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Scott, Stoddard, Mississippi, New Madrid, Dunklin, Butler, Wayne and Pemiscot counties. Douglass-Click has worked with the developmentally disabled, in human resources and for the past two years for the Census Bureau.

NORDENIA HONORS EMPLOYEES

Ronald "Shane" Webb, print press operator of Jackson, was employee of the month for January at Nordenia USA. He has been with the company since Feb. 7, 2000. Nordenia also recognizes the following employment anniversaries: John Allen, Timothy Conklin, Donnie McClinton and Steven Leimbach, 20 years of service; and Terry Allen, Kim Kranawetter and Robert England, 15 years.

GRABLE HEADS P.B. STREET DEPT.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Jeremy Grable is the new superintendent of the Poplar Bluff Street Department. He replaces retiring superintendent Tom Tippen, who served the department for 33 years.

CHILDRESS JOINS BAILEY'S

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Larry Childress is the new manager at Bailey's Glass. He has 17 years of experience in automotive glass repair and replacement.

BERNIE HIRES SUPERINTENDENT

BERNIE, Mo. -- The Bernie School Board will hire Douglas Ruck, a 23-year veteran in the educational field, as superintendent beginning with the 2011-12 school year, replacing current superintendent John Boyd. Ruck has been a school administrator for nine years, with the past three as superintendent in Vibernum, Mo.

INSURANCE AGENTS RECOGNIZED

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- David Danieley, American Family Insurance agent in Farmington, Mo., and Edward Felker, American Family Insurance agent in Bonne Terre, Mo., were recognized for customer satisfaction excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Insurance Agency Program, reported the Park Hills Daily Journal. Danieley and Felker join other American Family agents who have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to outstanding customer service.

HUTCHASON EARNS PLUS AWARD

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Thadd Hutchason of Yellow Gold LLC received the Proven Leaders in Unmatched Service (PLUS) Certified Technician Award from Reinke Manufacturing Inc., a leading manufacturer of mechanized irrigation systems based in Deshler, Neb. The award is one of the most elite technical service designations awarded by Reinke. Hutchason qualified for the award during a Reinke service training session held in Deshler, where he completed a series of courses and received high marks on all tests.

ROBERTS JOINS CPA FIRM

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- CPA Wayne Linnenbringer added Roy M. Roberts to his office. Roberts, who has practiced public and private accounting in southern Missouri since 1974, has experience in all types of taxation, including personal, estates, trusts, partnerships and corporations. Since joining the Linnenbringer firm, he has converted the office into a paperless filing system.

Several awards were presented Jan. 14 at the Jackson Chamber of Commerce and Jackson Industrial Development Co. annual banquet. Awards went to Gerald Jones, retired Cape Girardeau County presiding commissioner, R.A. Fulenwider Meritorious Community Service Award; B&B Door, owned by Mike Beussink, Industry of the Year; Jackson Tire, owned by Charlie Glueck, and Creative Edge, owned by Jason Wray, Business of the Year; Sara Gerau, Chamber Ambassador of the Year; and Jessica Maxwell, Community Service Award. Additionally, Signature Packaging, owned by Dennis Vincent, was recognized for receiving the Fast Track Award from the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

BUEHRLE INCREASES HOLDINGS

Donna S. Buehrle, senior branch office administrator at Edward Jones in Timothy R. Domain's office in Cape Girardeau, accepted an invitation to increase her limited partnership holdings in The Jones Financial Cos., the holding company for St. Louis-based Edward Jones financial services. Buehrle joined Edward Jones in 2002.

Genesis Transportation Co. recently presented safety awards to 12 employees with a combination of more than 20 million accident-free miles. SIKESTON, Mo. -- Robert Culbertson, Sikeston, is the new Internet sales manager at Morlan Dodge. He has been in the auto industry since 2001, working in the areas of finance, sales, general management and consulting.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Sheila Rhodes, Poplar Bluff, was Employee of the Year for 2010 at Commerce Bank. She has been with the bank for 23 years and currently works as teller supervisor at the West Pine Branch. Commerce also honored four employees for their years of service. They include Belinda Winters and Cathy Williams, 20 years each; Debbie Isbell, 15 years; and Richard Landers, 10 years.

STONE NAMED POLICE CHIEF

DEXTER, Mo. -- Sgt. Sammy Stone was appointed police chief of the Dexter Police Department. He has been with the department for 26 years and began serving as interim police chief in November, when chief Paul Haubold resigned.

ALSUP NAMED ASST. SUPERINTENDENT

DEXTER, Mo. -- Dr. Roger Alsup, current principal at T.S. Hill Middle School, will serve as assistant superintendent for Dexter School District beginning with the 2011-12 school year. Alsup has worked in the district for 20 years and will fill the role vacated by Bryce Matthews upon his retirement.

FOUR AWARDED CDA CREDENTIAL

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Janey Bailey, Brenda Marie Carnell, Sylvia Hankins and Angel Webb, employees at Advance Learning Center, were each awarded the child development associate credential in recognition of their outstanding work with young children. The credential was awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C.

CULLER APPOINTED TO STATE BOARD

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Robert Culler, Hayti, Mo., to the Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development Authority. The authority makes capital available to Missouri farmers, particularly independent producers, agribusinesses and small businesses at competitive interest rates on a scale to make a major impact. Culler, executive vice president and community business developer for First State Bank and Trust Company, was nominated for a term ending June 30, 2014.

SUNDHAUSEN, O'SHEA NAMED CPA PARTNERS

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- CPAs Laurie Sundhausen, Park Hills, Mo., and Michael O'Shea, Farmington, Mo., have been named partners at the accounting firm of Crouch, Farley & Heuring PC. The firm name will remain the same, reported the Park Hills Daily Journal. Sundhausen has been with the firm since 1994 and works out of the Farmington office. O'Shea has been with the firm since 1997 and works in the Festus, Mo., office.

BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- The Bonne Terre Chamber of Commerce presented several awards at its annual banquet Jan. 22. Awards went to Don Hawkins, Lifetime Hall of Fame Award; Rep. CALL APPOINTED TO BOARD

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Janette Call, Perryville, was named to the Board of Examiners for Hearing Instrument Specialists. The board reviews applicants for licensure and makes recommendations to the Division of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration on matters of discipline of licenses. The board also reviews and approves other states with equivalent or stricter requirements for reciprocal licenses, approves the examination required for licensure and may administer the practical portion of the examination, and reviews and approves courses for continuing education credits required for license renewal. Call is the owner and operator of Better Hearing Solutions LLC.

HALTER, GLENN COMPLETE U.S. CHAMBER PROGRAM

Steve Halter, director of the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce, and Tracey Glenn, vice president for organization and leadership development at the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, each completed the Institute for Organization Management program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The professional development program is a comprehensive course of study with four annual sessions that focus on professional growth and development for association, chamber and other not-for-profit professionals. Graduates of the institute receive IOM recognition signifying their completion of 96 hours of course instruction in not-for-profit management. They can also earn points toward the Certified Chamber Executive or Certified Association Executive certifications.

CAPE ART TEACHERS HONORED BY STATE

Sharon Williams and Elizabeth Thomas, longtime art teachers with the Cape Girardeau School District, were recently recognized for the ultimate in education excellence from the Missouri Art Education Association. Thomas was named 2011 Art Educator of the Year, and Williams was named Missouri Retired Art Educator of the Year. They have been invited to the state and national conventions in March to receive their recognition. The Missouri Art Education Association each year accepts nominations honoring outstanding art educators in 10 categories.

TUCKER LEAVES PERRY COUNTY FOR NEW POSITION

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Larry W. Tucker, executive director of the Perry County Economic Development Authority since 2003, accepted a position as marketing and business development manager with the city of Wentzville, Mo.

KINSEY RETIRES FROM LOCAL BAKERY

Wes Kinsey, co-owner of My Daddy's Cheesecake, Cape Girardeau, has retired. Co-owners Kevin and Susan Stanfield hosted a retirement reception for him on Jan. 29. Kinsey has been baking and decorating cakes since 1973 and became owner of My Daddy's Cheesecake in 1996. My Daddy's has a second location in Clayton, Mo.
