Following a successful Cape Girardeau Regional Air Festival last year, organizers will take this year off with plans to host the event again in 2012.

Difficulty booking the performers event planners wanted is the main reason there will be no air show in Cape Girardeau this summer, said airport manager Bruce Loy.

Organizers wanted to put on a good show with quality performers, but weren't able to secure them this year.

"We also wanted to give our volunteers a break, last year's show was a lot of work," he said.

About 18,000 people attended the 2010 air show featuring the Blue Angels.

Finances were not a factor in choosing not to host an air show this year, said Loy. The 2010 event brought in about $80,000, according to city records.

"We will continue to work diligently on the 2012 show and we are working further ahead. We have made contact with several performers for 2012, but don't have any confirmations yet," said Loy.

Loy said the festival committee is working to set a date to get volunteers together who are interested in helping plan the 2012 air show.
