With warm weather approaching, many people are getting ready for yard sales and youth sports leagues.

Alderman Dale Rauh inquired about the city's policy regarding signs placed on city rights of way promoting those warm-weather activities.

During Monday night's board of aldermen meeting, Rauh said every year more signs begin showing up along city roads, causing traffic concerns and cluttering intersections.

City administrator Jim Roach said surprisingly, the city didn't really have a policy on the issue.

"We're hands-off on this. I don't know why because we're hands-on on everything else," he said.

Roach and public works director Rodney Bollinger said staff members could start looking at alternatives to the growing number of signs posted at intersections. One solution, Bollinger said, could be a master sign facing inward to a city lot, where people could park off the road and write down information posted on the sign.

Bollinger said during yard sale season, the city's street department goes out on Monday mornings and collects old signs.
